VARSITY

Doug O'Brien--Head Coach

Doug O'Brien made his Aliso Niguel debut as Varsity head coach in 2005, but has been involved in coaching in the Orange County area for some time.  He began his career at his alma mater, El Toro High School, where he spent five successful years between 1994 and 1998.  O'Brien has also coached boys' teams with Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club and girls' teams with Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.  When not in the gym, he can be found in the classroom here at Aliso Niguel where he teaches U.S. History and Geography.  Coach O'Brien says he loves coaching and enjoys building winning traditions at Aliso and producing competitive teams and individuals.  Outside of school, his perfect day is spending time with his wife Lara and three children, Justin, Jamie, and Kaitlin, surfing and playing at the beach.

 

Jon Greene--Assistant Coach
Jon Greene is in his fourth year as the varsity assistant coach at Aliso Niguel.  Greene has coached volleyball in the Saddleback community for over 15 years.  In 2009 Greene took over the Saddleback Valley Christian School Girls program and was awarded CIF Division V Coach of the Year honors for leading the Warriors to a CIF Finals appearance.  He also coaches girls 12 and under with his wife Kelly at Excel Volleyball club.  Prior to this Greene was the head coach of the boys' program at Capo Valley Christian, the girls' assistant coach at Capo Valley Christian, and a boys' coach at Saddleback Volleyball Club.  Jon enjoys playing guitar and spending time with his wife Kelly and their three wonderful children, Jaelyn, Jackson, and Ezekiel.

 

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Don Pedro--Junior Varsity Coach

Don Pedro (DP) is in his fourth year of teaching at Aliso Niguel and is currently teaching Spanish 1 and 4.  He went to Dana Hills (no hard feelings) and graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a major in Latin American Studies.  As a Banana Slug at Santa Cruz, he played outside hitter for the men's volleyball team.  After college, he lived in Columbia, South America where he taught English for 2 1/2 years.  DP loves to play guitar in his punk band, shralp the lip at the beach, and travel to rad places.  His favorite food is his mommy's chicken broccoli and he lives by the quote, "God must have been a surfer!"  In December of 2009 DP was married to the love of his life Bethany and they currently enjoy a blissful life living b the beach in San Clemente.


FRESHMAN

Dan Bornfeld--Freshman Coach

Dan Bornfeld has been extensively involved in the Orange County volleyball community at both the high school and club levels since 1990.  In addition to coaching boys' and girls' volleyball teams at Aliso Niguel, Coach Bornfeld teaches AP European History and is the "Voice of the Wolverines" at football and basketball games.  Borny loves hanging out with his beautiful wife, Sherine, and their cats, Boog and Mia.
